    General Program Information

Who should become a candidate for certification in the Teradata Certified Professional Program (TCPP)?

We offer certifications for everyone! The Teradata Database Certified Associate Certification is for anyone interested in Teradata and does not require any hands-on experience. Teradata customers, partners, consultants and employees who design, administer, support or write applications using Teradata are candidates for the Teradata Certified Professional Program.

What exams are offered by TCPP?

We offer exams in the Teradata Database Certification Track (anyone new to Teradata Certification should begin with this track):

We offer exams in the Teradata 14 Certification Track:

    • 3 baseline exams (TE0-141-TE0-143)
    • 3 job role exams (TE0-144 – TE0-146)
    • the Comprehensive Mastery Exam (TE0-147)
    • a bridge exam (TE0-14B) for eligible candidates to bridge from Teradata 12 to Teradata 14

What is the re-certification policy and will I be required to re-certify?

Certifications earned in the Teradata Database Certification Track require re-certification.

    • Teradata Database Certified Associate Certification – expires 5 years from the date that the exam was passed.
    • Teradata Database Certified DBA, Advanced DBA, Developer, Advanced Developer and System Architect Exams– expire 3 years from the date that the exam was passed.

Teradata 14 Certifications awarded will remain valid and will not expire. However, when the market dictates that certification on a previous release of Teradata is no longer meaningful, the certifications will no longer be supported by TCPP. Candidates are encouraged to test on and obtain a  more current certification based on a newer release of Teradata.

Why do the Teradata Database Certifications have expiration dates?

Technology changes, therefore recertification is an accepted and expected process within the IT industry.  The TCPP believes that certification holders must maintain and validate their knowledge regularly and has established recertification policies.

Will I be required to accept a “Candidate Agreement”?

Teradata requires your review and acceptance of the “Teradata Certified Professional Program Candidate Agreement” or “TCPP Candidate Agreement” (which conforms to IT industry standards) each time you take a certification exam. The agreement contains non-disclosure obligations, trademark license rights, termination rights, disclaimers of warranties and limitations of liability, and privacy clauses. It is recommended that you download the Teradata Candidate Agreement and review it carefully before your exam appointment.

What types of credentials are awarded for each certification level?

A personalized certificate, camera ready logo artwork, and Logo Usage Guidelines can be downloaded and printed from the Teradata Certification Tracking System. In addition, you will receive an email from Acclaim to claim your digital badge. Please note that except for Teradata Certified Masters, a printed certificate will not be delivered to your physical mailing address.

Teradata Certified Masters will receive a printed Teradata Certification Welcome Kit after they confirm their physical mailing address in the Tracking System. The kit will contain a personalized certificate, a laminated wallet sized certificate, camera ready logo artwork, and the Logo Usage Guidelines.

Where may I find instructions on using the Teradata certification logos?

The TCPP Logo Usage Guidelines and logo artwork can be downloaded from the Teradata Certification Tracking System. As stated in the TCPP Candidate Agreement, you are required to adhere to the guidelines and protect the logo you have earned from un-authorized use. Digital badges can be used on many social media forums, in email signatures, and electronic resumes. Be sure to include the metadata (URL) when using a digital badge.

How may I contact TCPP for additional program information or questions?

How may I provide verification of my certifications to a prospective employer or set up a transcript?

Teradata certified individuals have access to their exam records and certifications in the Teradata Certification Tracking System. Access the Tracking System to create a transcript of exams and certifications for third party verification. Go to the Results & Cert Verification page for additional information.

Digital badges can also be used for credential verification with one simple click.

How do I verify a certification?

Ask the certified candidate to provide one of the following:  a digital badge, a transcript, their certificate number that can be entered in the Certificate Verification System.  Alternatively, you can email the TCPP for credential verification.

What happens to my certifications in an older track when a new certification track is developed?

Certifications achieved in the V2R3, V2R5, Teradata 12 and Teradata 14 Certification tracks will not expire, like a diploma. However, due to Teradata technology advances and changes, credentials may become outdated and obsolete. At that time, TCPP will no longer support certifications from the track that has become obsolete.

Effective July 15, 2013, V2R3 Certifications are no longer supported.

Effective August 8, 2017, V2R5 Certifications are no longer supported.

Effective December 31, 2019, Teradata 12 Certifications will no longer be supported.

All Teradata Database Certifications have expiration dates.

    • Teradata Database Certified Associate Certification – expires 5 years from the date that the exam was passed.
    • Teradata Database Certified DBA, Advanced DBA, Developer, Advanced Developer and System Architect Certifications– expire 3 years from the date that the exam was passed

My Certifications are no longer supported what does that mean?

Teradata V2R3, V2R5, Teradata 12, and Teradata 14 Certifications do not expire.  They remain “supported” until technology has advanced, making the certifications no longer current in the marketplace. Certification transcripts will indicate that the certification is no longer supported. Once your certification is no longer supported you will not have access to the following:

    • Certification logos for business cards
    • Official Certificates
    • Exclusive marketing and promotional offers
    • Beta Exam participation
    • Masters Forum privileges (Masters only)
    • Exclusive gift at Teradata Analytics Universe annual conference (Masters only)

You may not re-take the Comprehensive Mastery Exam once you have passed it. An eligible candidate may request an eligibility voucher twenty-one days or more after his/her latest Comprehensive Mastery Exam testing date, subject to the restriction of two attempts in a six month period.

Do I have to pay for any retakes of an exam because I did not pass the first time?

You will have to schedule and pay for any exam that you may need to retake.

How long might it take to achieve the certifications in a track?

Hands-on experience, supporting education, training methods and the certification level you choose as your goal are all factors in determining how much preparation will be required before you take each exam. The highest-level certification, Teradata Certified Master, may take up to 36 months to complete. This is only an average time frame. TCPP does not mandate a specific time frame that you must complete a certification level. Please note that since Teradata Database exams have expiration dates, exam candidates need to ensure that required exams are valid and current (not expired) while attempting to test higher level job role exams.

On which release of Teradata software are the Teradata Certification exams based?

Exams in the Teradata Database Certification Track are based on the most current release of Teradata Database software that was available at the time that the exam was created. Exams will continue to be updated based on new Teradata releases. To find out which release the exam is based on, check the appropriate exam pages or email TCPP.

What are the eligibility requirements to take the Upgrade Path for Teradata 14 exams?

Candidates in good standing, that currently hold any of the following Teradata 12 Certification(s) are eligible to take the Teradata 14 Bridge from Teradata 12 exam (TE0-14B):

    • Teradata 12 Certified Technical Specialist
    • Teradata 12 Certified Database Administrator
    • Teradata 12 Certified Solutions Developer
    • Teradata 12 Certified Enterprise Architect

Is there a specific order in which I must pass the Teradata 14 exams to achieve certification?

For the Teradata 14 track, exams are sequenced. For example:

    • Teradata 14 Comprehensive Mastery (TE0-147) – All exams TE0-141 through TE0-146 must be passed before the Comprehensive Mastery (TE0-147) exam can be taken – Teradata 12 Masters excepted.

Is there a specific order in which I must pass the Teradata 14 exams using the Upgrade path?

Candidates eligible to take the Teradata 14 Upgrade Path must first complete the Teradata 14 Bridge from Teradata 12 exam (TE0-14B) before taking any job role exams (TE0-144, TE0-145, TE0-146 or TE0-147).

May I transfer my passed exams in one track to a different certification track?

Teradata 14 Certification holders do have bypass options available for the Teradata Database Certification Track.

For all certification tracks prior to Teradata 14, you will not be allowed to transfer or "mix" exams and certification levels among different tracks. You must pass exams specific to that track to achieve certification.

Example: If you passed the Teradata 12 Basics and Teradata 12 SQL exams you cannot transfer those exams to the Teradata 14 track. You will need to pass the Teradata 14 Basics and the Teradata 14 SQL exams before taking the Teradata 14 Physical Design and Implementation exam. You will then achieve the Teradata 14 Certified Technical Specialist certification.

Do I have to take the Teradata 14 Basics exam if I already achieved other Teradata Certifications?

Candidates in good standing, that currently hold any of the following Teradata 12 Certification(s) are eligible to take the Teradata 14 Bridge from Teradata 12 exam (TE0-14B):

    • Teradata 12 Certified Database Administrator
    • Teradata 12 Certified Solutions Developer
    • Teradata 12 Certified Enterprise Architect

Teradata 12 Masters may upgrade to Teradata 14 Masters Certification by taking one exam: Teradata 14 Comprehensive Mastery Exam (TE0-147).

All other candidates must begin the Teradata 14 track with the Basics exam.

If I have achieved Teradata Certified Master status, will I have to take all exams again to achieve the Master Certification in a different track?

Teradata 14 Certified Masters must pass the Advanced DBA, Advanced Developer, and System Architect Exams to obtain the Teradata Database Certified Master Certification.

Teradata 12 Certified Masters must complete the Teradata 14 Comprehensive Mastery exam to obtain the Teradata 14 Master Certification.
