I don't know if you have got any replies on this.
We had implemented separate KEY and MAP tables in past.

These key tables will have a surrogate key and also their natural key counterpart. In fact the first loading job in the ETL was to load these Key tables. Generate new keys if they don't exist.

I don't think there is any direct way to generate Surrogte keys.
