Senior Data Warehouse Engineer - BHR# 130-06
The Information Technology Department, at Safeway, Inc. located in Pleasanton, CA has an opening for a Senior Data Warehouse Engineer.
Qualifications: The following are preferred or desired unless specifically stated:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science.
8 - 10 years experience in the retail industry preferred.
Programming skills of the following: Java, C++, Unix, Shell programming and SQL.
Solid understanding of working in a Teradata environment with a Masters in Teradata certification preferred.
Thorough knowledge of Data Warehouse technology, ETL tools and Teradata Management tools used to support a large corporation.
Minimum 3 – 4 years experience with an ETL tool. Ascential DataStage is preferred.
Must be able to translate the business requirements to the Data Warehouse ETL process and solutions.
File conversion and data loading experience, good programming skills, and experience with multidimensional design for Data Warehouses.
Strong database skills with experience in creating data mart applications and the data marts themselves.
Able to utilize a structured methodology for the requirements, design and realization of Data Warehouses/Data Mart solutions.
Develop specs and delegate to junior programmers, as well as, be able to provide guidance and mentor their development.
Able to work in a fast paced, dynamic, ever evolving work environment.
Desire to learn new skills, technologies and adapt to new information demands.
Ability to multi-task on many projects and priorities and be able to handle situations that may come with delivery of critical applications. Be adaptable to change direction and priorities quickly, based on changing business needs.
Thorough understanding of SQL.
Able to switch priorities quickly and easily.
Strong organization and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Develop new applications for the Warehouse and support existing ones.
Develop applications in a J2EE environment as well in as in the established Warehouse environment.
Analyze, design, develop and implement data warehouse / data mart solutions in a large corporation.
Develop extensive knowledge of the Operations and Code line within the data warehouse.
Developing systems/applications that interface with multiple platforms in the midrange and Unix environments.
Migrate existing applications from one database environment to another.
Programming & testing data acquisition (internally and externally) and transformation processes.
Populate the data into the data warehouse: detailed & summarized.
Automating & scheduling all automated processes.
Monitor data acquisition and data access activities
