Job Description Database Administration 4, Teradata

A. Position Purpose
Senior level database administration position involving management of multiple Teradata databases in a highly dynamic environment. Provide advanced technical expertise to a team in support of operational and project activities related to T-Mobile’s business systems. Provide advanced technical and operational support to other departments and teams in support of T-Mobile’s business objectives.
B. Position Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Understand and apply advanced database administration, management and performance tuning techniques Provide technical advice and expertise to less senior staff members Provide 24x7 on call support as part of a scheduled rotation with other team members Provide advanced technical troubleshooting for applications and database systems with emphasis on root cause analysis Participate in design and application review sessions, assist with definition of computing standards and recommend policies related to those standards Configure and tune hardware and software to insure optimum performance and resource utilization. Provide technical advice on industry best practices for Business Intelligence systems, tactical queries, advanced analytics, and data mining. Provide creative solutions to challenges that come up, such as capacity, physical design, or workload balancing issues.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
Write and maintain documentation describing changes and modifications to all systems and databases Participate in meetings and conference calls related to project and troubleshooting activities Perform exports, backups and data extracts as required Research solutions to various business and technical problems, evaluate alternatives and be able to present recommendations and justifications to management Provide mentoring to fellow database administrators, systems programmers and others Act as technical liaison in support for database related project activities Develop strong working knowledge of key applications and their interaction with the database(s)
C. Position Requirements Functional/Technical Skills
Previous experience in a Teradata or similar MPP environment High degree of skill with database commands and Teradata utilities such as Manager, Administrator, SQL Assistant, TSET, Visual Explain, arcmain, TASM, etc. Advanced knowledge of database administration tasks such as Dabtabase Console utilities, security, workload management. Previous experience with issues around database, client tool, and hardware upgrades. Ability to write, debug and tune sql, macros, procedures, functions, triggers, etc. Experience with database monitoring and tuning tools such as Teradata Manager and PMON Solid experience with the unix operating system and command set as well as competence with shell scripting Solid experience with very large, multi-workload data wharehouses. Familiarity of the capabilities of the Teradata API.
Experience
Three to seven years as a database administrator working with Teradata Experience in a large, 24x7 environment Experience with multi-terabyte, multi-application databases Experience with telephony billing systems and related applications a big plus Experience with Teradata system administration (MP-RAS or LINUX) a big plus Experience with 3rd-party add-ons such as SAS or Tibco adapters a plus
