Summary Description:
This is an experienced Database Engineer position with a preferred emphasis in a Teradata database application development. The job position will be in the TMDM - Department.

Primary responsibilities include providing Teradata database support and planning, provide timely engineering assessments of MDM database requirements, development of an engineering plan for MDM database implementations. The database engineer must provide both thought leadership and experienced database development and implementation skills. Experience should include the development of engineering strategies and plans for database requirements. Experience must include Teradata database design, tuning and implementation.
Technical experience of both NCR hardware and software is a must. The environments to be supported include all of the large systems platforms such as UNIX, Windows, Linux. The database support is targeted primarily for MDM Teradata systems.

Responsibilities include working closely with the engineering team to review feature/product requirements, provide input on architecture, preparation of specifications, design, prototype and develop the Teradata database objects which satisfies requirements. The engineer should be able to build effective Teradata database structures, UDF’s and Stored Procedures, as well as any scripting required.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
1. Work with MDM-based Java application engineers on the design, prototype, development and support of all elements of business applications.
2. Must be able to accurately comprehend products application, database, and systems architecture, relate these items to the appropriate NCR product (Teradata, MDM, MPP, SDW Tools, etc. ) and effectively define and produce the appropriate engineering assessments, strategies, and support plans.
3. Must be able to produce a Quality Achievement Plan for a software product as required. Must command superior knowledge of Teradata architecture and implementations, have effective communication capabilities, can reconcile roadmaps with lab / system admin, and interface with GSC as required.
4. Create specifications in support of design, and development.

Scope:
This role requires the ability to work within a high-performance team, and the ability and initiative to develop and drive implementation of the database design, implementation and performance that will contribute to the ongoing success of the project.

This role of this Database Engineer reporting directly to the group level manager, requiring good skills in building and maintaining productive, collaborative relationships with Development Engineering.

Work Environment:
Tasks will be performed in an office workstation environment. Travel to other NCR facilities and to customer sites may be required.

Education and Background
Education and Experience Requirements:
Education: BSCS/MSCS or applicable experience.
Strong SQL skills and expertise in database technologies, extensive customer experience, strong communication, organizational and analysis skills, extensive on-hands experience with Teradata and its associated tools. Experience with Java J2EE technologies preferred. Business application development experience preferred.
