What's in the Package?
Teradata Accelerate offers pre-configured, full solutions for a variety of needs.
by Chris Twogood
No matter the size, industry or geography, organizations depend on getting answers to their business questions quickly and accurately. They can't risk time-to-market delays or system integration challenges. However with the recent global economic concerns, CIOs are finding themselves increasingly challenged to deliver new initiatives with a reasonably quick return on investment (ROI).
The good news is that with Teradata Accelerate, organizations can get exactly what they need to help make those decisions. They no longer have to make do with their current eclectic system or string together a hodge-podge of new applications and systems to get the job done.
PACKAGED DEALS
Teradata Accelerate offers nine pre-configured, comprehensive packages that offer appropriate hardware, software and services. Each package is tailored for a specific industry or application and is aligned to accommodate organizations' business intelligence (BI) needs.
Whether an organization is building its first data warehouse, re-hosting a data mart or preparing to further develop its current system, these packages enable companies to rapidly deploy their applications and systems. ROI and time to value are quickly realized from this select data warehouse investment.
Variations of the packages, each at a set price, address particular environments or objectives with different components. Elements include Teradata Database 12, the appropriate Teradata Purpose-Built Platform Family member and the software necessary to run the system. The table below offers brief descriptions of all of the packages.
Implementation services grant rapid time to value with defined deliverables to have the system up and running in 10 to 120 days, depending on the package. These services assist organizations in the design and deployment of the data warehouse. In addition, training is available to two employees for a full year, further ensuring a smooth transition into the new system.
Because the package is built on the Teradata Database and the Teradata platform family, the architecture can seamlessly grow as a company develops, which reduces integration and system-implementation issues. With the Teradata Database leveraged across the entire platform portfolio, it is easy to migrate from one system to another if an organization's core requirements change. This parallelism also strengthens the knowledge base of an organization's internal resources, because only one system must be learned. Finally, from an expertise level, assistance from a single service team is all encompassing.
In the end, the organizations will own a scalable and powerful system—built by data warehousing experts—that will enable them to maximize ROI by answering targeted business questions based on critical focus areas.
TERADATA ACCELERATE FOR DATA WAREHOUSING
Teradata products and services combined with partner tools provide a solution for organizations that are just starting out in data warehousing. Teradata Accelerate for Data Warehousing focuses on a single functional area and provides services for discovery and implementation. The package can be deployed in 120 days. With a starting price of $830,000, it includes the following components:
Database. Teradata 12 is a scalable decision-support solution. The system's parallel processing power and internal architecture offers high query performance and concurrency.
Platform. Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance 2550 is a fully integrated data warehouse with pre-installed database and operating systems. The appliance provides consistent performance optimizations for fast table scans and heavy analytics. Because it is delivered ready to run and is pre-staged and tested when it arrives, the system can be deployed as is and go live in hours. Included are 6.3TB of customer data space with 40% compression, two Quad Core Intel Xeon Processors and 64GB memory. Other platform options are also available.
Software. These tools are included to load data and monitor queries, manage the Teradata system and connect to other applications and systems:
- System management: Teradata Manager
- Data loading: Teradata Parallel Transporter Load and Export Operators
- Data management: Teradata Meta Data Services, Teradata Administrator
- Connectivity: ODBC, JDBC, CLI, OLE DB Provider, .NET Data Provider, Plug-in for Eclipse, Data Connector
- SQL generation: Teradata SQL Assistant, SQL Assistant/Web Edition, Basic Teradata Query Utility
- BI and data integration platforms: Choice of platforms from Teradata partners, including SAP BusinessObjects; Cognos, an IBM company; Informatica; Oracle; Microsoft; and MicroStrategy
The BI platform, which includes a license for 25 users, provides a reporting and analysis capability that allows definition of a full breadth of report types.
The data integration platform with Teradata Accelerate for Data Warehousing creates a comprehensive, detailed, enterprise information store that enables organizations to:
- Build enterprise data warehouses (EDWs) with multi-terabyte capacity
- Enhance BI capabilities with centralized and standardized information
- Attain centralized management of distributed resources
- Ensure speed and efficiency in data acquisition, storage and analysis
Services. To ensure a successful data warehouse implementation, a packaged set of Teradata Professional Services is delivered in two phases (see figure):
- Phase 1: Discovery—information and data assessment. A data warehouse information discovery service is conducted to drive consensus on key business questions and define the data needed to answer those questions. Deliverables include a report in the form of a high-level data model that will identify the data requirements along with any gaps and deficiencies.
- Phase 2: Implementation—project management, logical data modeling, physical database design, data transformation, platform installation, query development. The business questions identified in Phase 1 are addressed with the delivery of the production data warehouse. Phase 2 will leverage the Teradata Industry Logical Data Model to create a fully attributed data model, which will translate into a physical database design showing entities, relationships and attributes.
Once the extract, transform and load (ETL) process is designed to incrementally load the data warehouse, the Teradata Professional Services team will construct the database and perform functional testing. BI tools will be mapped to the physical model and provide appropriate initial optimization efforts. Specifically developed queries and reports will enable end users to analyze and present information on critical business questions.
Project management functions provided include monitoring project status, generating status reports, conducting periodic status meetings, managing the change control process, and ensuring the project's timely and successful completion.
Teradata Quickstart Training includes unlimited classroom and Web-based training on the application for two students for 12 months.
TERADATA ACCELERATE FOR MARKETING
