Teradata customer BNSF Railway Company was recognized as 2008's 21st Century Achievement Award winner for the successful implementation of a
locomotive fuel-saving program that cut consumption by 1.5% in specific regions. The award was given by Computerworld magazine as part of The Computerworld
Honors Program at a ceremony June 2 in Washington, D.C.
A subsidiary of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation, BNSF Railway Company operates one of the largest North American rail networks, with about 32,000 route
miles in 28 states and two Canadian provinces. BNSF's Fuel MVP Program rewards locomotive engineers using fuel-efficient train-handling practices and measures
their performance with a fuel-efficiency scorecard.
The critical component of the program is the BNSF enterprise data warehouse (EDW) from Teradata. Fuel-consumption information is gathered at wireless download
base stations from passing trains' onboard computers and loaded into the EDW. The resulting efficiency scorecards are displayed online.
With a reselling alliance announced, Teradata and Trillium Software, a Harte-Hanks data quality (DQ) business, move closer to becoming a one-stop shop for
enterprise DQ solutions. The partnership means Teradata will now sell Trillium's DQ offering to provide an integrated and more complete master data management
(MDM) solution. The aim is to provide enterprises with the flexibility to access existing DQ tools for scalable data analysis and data management.
The Trillium Software System will be sold in conjunction with the Teradata system as well as with Teradata Relationship Manager and Teradata MDM solutions.
China Post expands to real-time data loading and querying China Post Express Mail Service (EMS) Bureau, the nation's largest provider of express mail and
courier services, has expanded its Teradata system to provide real-time information management capabilities. This represents a major upward shift in performance
to the level of an active data warehouse. With this technology expansion and upgrade, China Post has launched its third-generation track-and-trace system for
consumer mail and packages.
This is believed to be the first information system in China to achieve real-time data loading and query capacity, which moves the business beyond strategic
analytics to optimize operational processes for improved cross-enterprise visibility and customer service. The new system at EMS now features real-time monitoring
and sophisticated operational notifications as well as detailed financial analysis and reporting.
Teradata implements financial services Enterprise Data Warehouse at Industrial and Commercial Bank of China One of the largest banks in China has implemented an
enterprise data warehouse (EDW) from Teradata.
Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) selected Teradata in 2007 to deploy an EDW that integrates the information resources from across ICBC to support
all of the analytical applications for the bank and improve its operational and management efficiency. In the first phase of the project, Teradata assisted ICBC
in building a centralized EDW for data analysis to support back-office applications. This was accomplished by integrating data from core operational systems
across the bank.
In view of the scale and diversity of ICBC's operations and the number of its customers, this EDW project is the first of its kind in the Chinese banking
industry, based on its data capacity, technical level and implementation challenge.
Bank Hapoalim, the leading financial institution in Israel, is continuing the expansion of its data warehouse as part of an ongoing program to integrate
and centralize data for enhanced financial reporting. The expansion includes the installation of software tools and new hardware for analyzing and reporting
financial results, including the deployment of Teradata Value Analyzer, a software and services solution providing detailed, enterprise profitability analysis to
enhance its finance and performance measurement capabilities.
Giant Tiger, a family-owned retailer with 184 locations in Canada, has selected Teradata to provide an enterprise data warehouse to help execute its business
intelligence (BI) strategy.
Giant Tiger also purchased the Teradata Retail Logical Data Model (RLDM), which serves as a blueprint for building its enterprise data structure. The RLDM
provides common business definitions for all entities, resulting in a single view across the organization. It also documents business rules, supports consistent
reporting and analytical results and helps eliminate data redundancy.
Teradata introduces Teradata Warehouse Miner 5.2, which embeds 50 new statistical data mining functions from its partners into the Teradata Database to
accelerate the data mining process. Data mining is a powerful technology that discovers patterns in customer, financial and operational data that can provide
valuable business insights.
Teradata Warehouse Miner enhancements are supported by the recently announced SAS Scoring Accelerator for Teradata.
