Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC), the
global leader in enterprise data warehousing, today announced that Gartner, Inc.
has positioned Teradata in the leaders' quadrant in its "Data Warehouse DBMS
Magic Quadrant - 2007," authored by Donald Feinberg and Mark A. Beyer (Oct.
10, 2007). The report evaluates vendors that supply database management system software
used to support data warehousing.
According to Gartner, vendors who are positioned in the leaders' quadrant are performing well today, have a clear vision of
market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market.
Teradata has made available its Teradata 5500 Server, which uses approximately 75% less
energy and coexists with multiple generations of Teradata servers, thereby protecting the
technology investment of customers. By dramatically reducing energy usage for the
same system performance, Teradata has also reduced associated data center cooling and
power delivery infrastructure costs by a similar ratio. In addition to lower
energy-related cooling costs, the Teradata patented cabinet door design provides a 30%
improvement in cabinet cooling efficiency over conventional cabinet door designs. Cooling
expenses are a major portion of data center costs because cooling computer equipment
can consume the same amount of energy as powering the equipment.
Teradata and SAS have announced a strategic partnership that will enable
customers to exploit the best of the companies' core strengths through deeper technical integration of their respective
products, as well as through coordinated marketing, sales and services activities.
The foundation of the partnership is to enable businesses to run and optimize key aspects of SAS solutions and analytic
processes within the Teradata database engine. Customers will be able to leverage SAS capabilities and analytical functions to
utilize the core parallel processing inherent in Teradata's architecture. The joint road map also calls for selected SAS solutions
targeting financial services and retail to be optimized with Teradata.
