General Program Information

Who should become a candidate for certification in the Teradata Certified Professional Program (TCPP)?
All individuals who design, administer, support or write applications using Teradata database technology are candidates for certification in the Teradata Certified Professional Program. Candidates would include Teradata customers, partners, consultants and associates.

What certifications are offered by TCPP?
Teradata certification tracks are designed to contain baseline and role-based certification levels. Exams are developed for each level of certification. The exams and the certification levels in a track are based on a specific release of Teradata software. Achieving each certification level requires passing one or more exams. Refer to the Overview Page and TCPP Brochure for full details.

What is the re-certification policy and will I be required to re-certify?
TCPP plans to develop new Teradata certification exams for every other major release of Teradata database software. Re-certification on a specific release of Teradata software will not be mandated by TCPP. All Teradata certifications awarded will remain valued, valid and will not expire. The market may dictate that certification on a previous release of Teradata is no longer meaningful, whereby candidates have the option to achieve additional certifications based on a newer release of Teradata.

Will I be required to accept a "Candidate Agreement"?
Teradata requires your review and acceptance of an IT industry standard non-disclosure and privacy agreement known as the "Teradata Certified Professional Program Candidate Agreement" or "TCPP Candidate Agreement". The agreement contains non-disclosure obligations, trademark license rights, termination rights, disclaimers of warranties and limitations of liability, and privacy clauses. In summary the agreement requires you to not disclose or discuss specifics about test questions, requires you to maintain the integrity of your certification with proper use of the certification logos, and assures that your privacy will be protected.

Will I be allowed to take an exam if I do not accept the terms of the TCPP Candidate Agreement?

Each time you take a certification exam at an authorized Prometric Testing Center, you will be required to assent to the Teradata Certified Professional Program Candidate Agreement. When you click the "Accept" button, you acknowledge that you have read, accept and agree to be bound by the terms of the Candidate Agreement.

The testing software will not allow the exam to begin until the agreement is accepted. It is recommended that you download the TCPP Candidate Agreement (v3.0) for Teradata V2R5 exams and review it carefully before your exam appointment.

What types of credentials are awarded for each certification level?
A Teradata Certification Welcome Kit will be mailed to you when you complete the prescribed criteria for achieving a certification level. The kit will contain a personalized certificate, camera ready logo artwork, Logo Usage Guidelines, and other items.

Electronic Certificates: Beginning with certifications earned after April 1, 2009, certified candidates in India, China and Pakistan will receive credentials in printable PDF format via the valid e-mail address entered during exam registration and shown in the Teradata Certification Tracking System.

Where may I find instructions on using the Teradata certification logos?
The TCPP Logo Usage Guidelines and logo slicks will be included in the welcome packet you receive when you become certified. As stated in the TCPP Candidate Agreement, you are required to adhere to the guidelines at all times and protect the logo you have earned from un-authorized use. You may also request that your logo and the guidelines be e-mailed to you by accessing your profile at the Teradata Certification Tracking System. Follow instructions at the Tracking System page.

How may I contact TCPP for additional program information or questions?

How may I provide verification of my certifications to a prospective employer?

  • Hard Copy Credentials: You may present your hard-copy Teradata certification credentials which include:
    • Official color watermarked certificate with gold TCPP seal in lower left corner and your name and certification level imprinted on it.
    • Congratulatory letter from Teradata on letterhead with an orange colored Teradata logo.
    • Official examination Score Report, a one-page document stamped by an authorized Prometric Testing Center.
    • Laminated wallet-sized certificate if you received hard-copy credentials via standard mail
  • On-Line Verification: Teradata certified individuals have on-line access to their exam records and certifications in the Teradata Certification Tracking System maintained on a secure site. Create a transcript of exams and certifications for third party verification. Go to the Tracking System page for complete login information.

Teradata Certification Tracks

What are the Teradata certification tracks?
Teradata certification tracks are designed to contain baseline and role-based certification levels. Exams are developed for each certification level. The exams and the certification levels in a track are based on a specific release of Teradata software.

How long might it take to achieve the certification levels in a track?
Exams are developed according to certification industry standards to measure your knowledge and skill level in the subject area. Hands-on experience, supporting education, training methods and the certification level you choose are factors in determining how much study and preparation will be required before you take each exam. To complete the highest level certification, Teradata Certified Master, might take up to 18 months. This is only an average time frame and you might need more time or less time. TCPP does not mandate a specific time frame that you must complete a certification level. However, you will want to complete your chosen certification levels before a track is retired.

On which release of Teradata software are exams in the current certification track based?
Exams and certification levels in the current certification track are based on Teradata software releases including Teradata V2R5 (Version 2, Release 5). Previous exams, based on Teradata V2R3, were retired on June 30, 2004. Exams in the future certification track will be based on the Teradata 12 release of Teradata technology.

What certification levels are available in the Teradata V2R5 certification track?
As shown in the Quick Reference, there are six exams based on Teradata V2R5 that can be combined for achievement of eight certification levels in the V2R5 certification track.

  • Teradata Certified Professional V2R5 - requires 1 exam
  • Teradata Certified Implementation Specialist V2R5 - requires 2 exams
  • Teradata Certified SQL Specialist V2R5 - requires 2 exams
  • Advanced Teradata Certified Professional V2R5 - requires 3 exams
  • Teradata Certified Administrator V2R5 - requires 3 exams
  • Teradata Certified Design Architect V2R5 - requires 3 exams
  • Teradata Certified Application Developer V2R5 - requires 3 exams
  • Teradata Certified Master V2R5 - requires 6 exams or 1 updated exam *

Special Certifications: When you pass the first three Teradata exams (Basics, Physical Implementation and SQL), you are awarded the Advanced Teradata Certified Professional V2R5 certificate and logo.

Pass all six exams and you join the elite ranks of the Teradata Certified Masters.

*Note: Teradata Certified Masters (V2R3 track) as of June 30, 2004, may take one update exam in place of all six exams to become a Teradata Certified Master V2R5.

Is there a specific order in which I must pass the exams to achieve certification?
You may take the six exams in any order you choose. However, you must first pass the Teradata Basics exam before you will be awarded an official certification for any of the other exams you pass. The first criterion for obtaining any of the Teradata certification levels in a track is to pass the Teradata Basics exam in that track.

Example: You must pass Teradata Basics V2R5 Exam NR0-011 in the Teradata V2R5 certification track. Refer to the "Certification Guide" on this web site for details.

When will the current Teradata V2R5 certification track be retired? Will I have time to complete all certification levels?
The six core exams in the current Teradata V2R5 Certification Track will be available through Prometric testing centers until March 31, 2010. Certifications achieved will remain valid and will not expire. Most certification candidates should have ample time to complete all certification levels in the V2R5 track. Check this web site frequently for updates and further details about the retirement of the Teradata V2R5 Certification Track.

When will the new Teradata 12 Certification track be available? Can I begin the new track and also complete the V2R5 track?
We estimate the new Teradata 12 Certification Track will be launched in Q4-2009. To provide ample time for candidates to complete the current V2R5 track, there will be an overlap time period after the new track is released. Both tracks will be available concurrently for a short period of time. Exact overlap time periods will be announced later. More details.

What happens to my certification levels in an older track when a new certification track is developed?
All Teradata certification levels achieved in any certification track will remain valued, valid and will not expire, similar to a diploma.

May I transfer my exams and certification levels in one track to a different certification track?
You will not be allowed to transfer or "mix" exams and certification levels among different tracks. You must pass exams specific to the current track to achieve certification levels in that track.

Example: If you passed the Teradata Basics and Teradata SQL exams in the V2R3 track, you cannot transfer those exams and certifications to the V2R5. You will need to pass the Teradata Basics V2R5 and Teradata SQL V2R5 exams to achieve those same certification levels in the V2R5 track.

If I have achieved Teradata Certified Master status, will I have to take all exams again to achieve the Master level certification in a different track?

  • Current Teradata V2R3 Certified Masters may upgrade to Teradata V2R5 Certified Master by successfully completing the Teradata Masters V2R5 Update Exam NR0-017. This exam will be available at Prometric Testing Centers throughout the year 2010.
  • Teradata V2R5 Certified Masters gain eligibility to bridge to Teradata 12 Certified Master status in the future. To join the elite ranks of the Teradata Certified Masters V2R5, you must successfully complete the six Teradata V2R5 Certification exams before March 31, 2010.
  • All individuals who have been granted Teradata V2R5 Master status will be eligible to sit for the Teradata 12 Comprehensive Mastery exam (release date TBD) to achieve Teradata 12 Master Certification.
  • The Teradata 12 Comprehensive Mastery exam must be successfully completed by eligible Teradata 12 Certified candidates and Teradata V2R5 Masters before the Teradata 12 Master certification will be granted. Teradata 12 Comprehensive Mastery exam release will be announced in the future.
