Teradata Tools and Utilities

Application Programming Interfaces
Teradata provides a number of standardized interfaces to facilitate easy development of applications. Included are the ODBC Driver for Teradata, the JDBC Driver for Teradata, the OLE DB Data Provider for Teradata, the Microsoft .NET Data Provider for Teradata, the Teradata Call-Level Interface (CLI), and the TS/API, which permits applications that normally access IBM DB2 to run against Teradata. Also included are a number of third-party interfaces, such as Sybase Open Server and Open Client.

Language Preprocessors
Teradata provides a number of preprocessors to facilitate application development in languages such as COBOL, C and PL/1. With the libraries in these preprocessors, developers can create or enhance client- or host-based applications that access the Teradata RDBMS.

Data Load Utilities
Teradata load and unload utilities offer a powerful solution for managing all your data load requirements from batch to real-time. Among them are FastLoad, MultiLoad, FastExport, TPump, Teradata Parallel Transporter, Teradata Replication Solutions and Basic Teradata Query facility (BTEQ). They provide a wide array of features that are efficient, scalable and flexible, allowing you to centralize data from disparate sources seamlessly into the Teradata Warehouse. Teradata load and unload utilities are fully parallel to provide optimal and scalable performance for getting data in and out of your Teradata Database. In addition, our utilities allow you to import and export data to and from host-based and client-resident data sources, including mainframe host databases, enterprise server databases or departmental data marts.

Database Administration Tools
The Teradata RDBMS has a rich collection of tools and facilities to control database operation, administration and maintenance. These include ASF/2 for backup, archive and recovery; the Database Window (DBW) for status and performance statistics; the Administration Workstation (AWS) for a single point of administrative control over the entire Teradata system; and the Teradata Active System Management product set for the analysis, organization and control of workloads inside the Teradata solution. All of these tools, and many others, can be accessed individually or through a common user interface known as Teradata Manager. Teradata Manager runs on Windows NT or OS/2. Teradata Manager runs on Windows operating systems. Teradata Viewpoint, a new portal-based delivery framework for Teradata management tools and utilities, gives all users access to Teradata systems performance data, helping DBAs and administrators better manage their Teradata EDWs. This new solution also extends unprecedented self-service capabilities to the fingertips of business users, reducing the dependence and workload on the DBA and Administration staff.

Internet Access to Teradata
The Internet can widely expand your company's exposure to global markets. Teradata understands this emerging opportunity and consequently offers two common methods for accessing information stored in the Teradata RDBMS from the World Wide Web: Java and CGI.

  • Java
The Teradata Gateway for Java provides application developers with a simple, easy-to-use API to access Teradata from the Internet or Intranet. Any client capable of running a Java applet or application, including web browsers like Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer, can now access the Teradata RDBMS directly.
  • CGI Access
The Common Gateway Interface (CGI) describes a standard for interfacing database applications with web servers. Our CGI solution for Teradata allows SQL statements to be embedded within an HTML page and provides a mechanism to return result sets in the same HTML format. It validates parameters received through the HTTP query string and allows all data manipulation language (DML) constructs, including SELECTS, INSERTS, UPDATES and DELETES.
Teradata - Open, extensible, self-maintaining
Teradata drives the data warehouses of the world's leading companies in all industries. When our customers entrust terabytes of their precious corporate data to a database engine, they expect it to be available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 52 weeks per year. Teradata meets and exceeds their expectations.
