MIAMISBURG, Ohio — Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (HPHC), a full-service health benefits company headquartered near Boston and serving more than a million members, has expanded its data warehouse,
Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC) announced today. The additional power will accommodate the organization's growing requirements for visibility to detail data and analytical business insight.
"The Teradata system provides the enterprise power, speed and scalability we require as we actively grow the data warehouse user community to extend its business value," said Ralph Miller, director of corporate information management at HPHC. "Our use of the data warehouse involves deep analysis for strategic intelligence as well as for tactical insights into the quality and costs of medical care."
HPHC has come a long way since moving from an IBM DB2 data warehouse to a Teradata
Enterprise Data Warehouse. The Teradata platform allows a greater number of users to access data and information and has been a driver of significant cost savings as well as a means of providing more business value from Harvard Pilgrim's enormous data assets. HPHC has deployed an end-user adoption program for their EDW-driven analytics initiative and is rapidly increasing the number of users on the EDW, Miller said.
The
Teradata Data Warehouse helps HPHC and its many users analyze multiple terabytes of detailed data linked to millions of health insurance claims, patient experiences, doctors, hospitals, treatments, procedures and enrollment groups to answer complex questions and gain valuable insight into trends, costs and quality of care. The HPHC Teradata-based EDW is integrated with SAS tools and a growing base of new applications.
"Harvard Pilgrim Health Care is a leader in putting detailed information assets to good use — and optimizing their data warehouse investment," said Rick Morton, Teradata industry vice president for financial services, insurance and healthcare. "We applaud the information technology team at HPHC for its mastery at aligning IT with business objectives while extracting the maximum business value from their Teradata-driven analytical environment."
Teradata's momentum continues in the
healthcare and pharmaceutical industries as companies modernize and integrate critical information by replacing limited-use data appliances and data marts as well as slow, aging legacy data systems. Teradata's presence in the healthcare business includes such organizations as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, WellPoint, Highmark, WebMD, Kaiser Permanente, Hospital Corporation of America and pharmaceutical firms.
Enterprise Data Warehouses produced by Teradata analyze business operations to drive better, faster decisions by providing a complete view of the business and the agility to create a sustainable competitive advantage. The latest data warehouse release, Teradata 12.0, includes advanced features such as high-performance parallel database technology, a cost-based optimizer, a sophisticated mixed-workload management tool, a full suite of data access and management tools, and data mining software. Teradata shipped the first data warehouse in 1984.
