Environment

Just as data availability is dependent on system availability of hardware and software, system availability is dependent on the environment to support the system. Teradata provides a vast array of products and services to ensure that this most foundational aspect of system availability is correct for your system, from initial assessment through installation and deployment.

System Installation

Teradata System Installation allows you to begin realizing the benefits of your Teradata Warehouse solution immediately, giving you instant access to business-critical applications. Whether you are replacing an older system, adding capacity or upgrading your existing solution, Teradata Installation Service ensures you are up and running without delay. Benefits of this service include:
  • Immediate system availability
  • Minimal disruption to data center operations
  • Flexible scheduling to meet demanding timeframes
  • Minimized risk of potential service problems with thorough planning
  • Reduced risk of out-of-box failures with accurate and complete installation of all system components

Deployment / Redeployment

Teradata Warehouse Solutions are built to meet your business needs today and well into the future. Teradata Deployment and Relocation Services help you meet those changing needs, whether you are deploying new platforms, relocating existing platforms in the face of rapid growth, or entering a transitioning environment such as in the wake of a merger or acquisition.

  • Provides project management and coordination of resources and required tasks
  • Minimizes disruption to your business during the transition process
  • Minimizes the risk of potential or unforeseen problems
  • Helps grow your business
Key features:
  • Efficient method of deploying and relocating Teradata equipment
  • Competitive advantage in system up-time and access to business-critical systems
  • Expert resources for success in a transitioning environment
  • Minimal business disruptions

Environmental Assessment

Teradata Customer Services Environmental Assessment partners with globally recognized experts to provide world-class analysis of the customer's specific environment and provides environmental recommendations to ensure the most foundational component of availability is within Teradata specifications. Once your Teradata system is implemented, Teradata will institute data center monitoring practices to ensure environmental conditions stay in specification. Parameters include:

Electrical systems at the data center level:
  • Power conditioning that mitigates risk of unplanned outages due to electronic component damage from power spikes, drop-outs or average voltage out of norm
  • Power redundancy that mitigates the risk of unplanned outages due to power disruptions
Environmentals out of specification that increase unplanned component failure rates:
  • Heat is a leading cause of component failures
  • Cold increases support costs and tape/diskette errors
  • Humidity can cause shorts, corrosion and condensation
  • Dryness can cause Electrostatic Discharge (ESD), tape errors, etc.
  • Dirt causes abrasion, corrosion, overheating and early component failure
  • Airflow is crucial to prevent heat build-up and ensure proper clearances
Since environmentals can be highly localized, monitoring near the Teradata system is more accurate than central monitoring and therefore preferred. This is accomplished by:
  • Multiple sensors used to ensure environmental consistency throughout the data center provide greater measurement accuracy.
  • Continuous monitoring identifies environmental problems more quickly than periodic monitoring, therefore reducing environment-related failures.
