As a leading provider of IT services and solutions, Teradata believes an educated and experienced workforce is critical for a successful project. Teradata has even instituted a Teradata Professional Certification and a Teradata Masters Certification for its Teradata database.
The correct level of experience is also necessary for a successful and cost-effective project. When putting together a project team, Teradata will assess the level of experience required in the various areas of the project. Teradata will assemble and place a team with the appropriate education and experience at the government site.
Labor Roles and Categories
The following roles are provided as an example of typical roles and their associated labor categories that would be provided on a data warehousing project. These or additional roles may be proposed and would be determined by the task order requirements.
Role Descriptions
- Contractual Program Manager
The Contractual Program Manager is the senior Teradata management person on the program who has the following responsibilities:
- Overall responsibility for the program
- Escalation point for government concerns
- All personnel issues
- Program billing
- Changes to task order or SOW
- Technical Program Manager
The Technical Program Manager is the on-site Teradata management person who has responsibility for the management and execution of the tasks for the government. Those responsibilities include:
- Responsibility for the POA&M
- Assigning team members to tasks
- Primary point of contact for the government concerning tasks on this program
- Quality and integrity of the deliverables
- Technical Writer
The Technical Writer is responsible for managing the documents produced by the program. The responsibilities of this position include:
- Providing assistance to the technical staff in completing required documentation
- Ensuring the documentation produced meets government standards
- Ensuring documentation has the same look and feel
- Performing documentation management functions
- Business Analyst/SME
The Business Analyst is responsible for identifying business customer requirements and transforming them into either a data assessment or report specification document. The responsibilities for the business analyst are as follows:
- Understanding the requirements of the business areas
- Working with data source personnel to determine data characteristics to complete a data assessment
- Converting customer business requirements into a report specification document
- Senior ETL Developer
The Senior ETL Developer is the lead technical staff member responsible for ETL development. The responsibilities of the Senior ETL Developer are as follows:
- Have a high level of technical skill in ETL development activities
- Design and implement the ETL development process
- Interface with program/technical management and other organizations
- Provide input to processes
- Perform code reviews
- Perform ETL development activities
- ETL Developer
The ETL Developer performs the ETL development at the direction of the Technical Program Manager and Senior ETL Developer. The responsibilities of the ETL Developer are as follows:
- Perform ETL development activities assigned
- Have a proficient level of technical skill in Teradata DBA activities
- Senior Database Administrator
The Senior Database Administrator is the lead technical staff member with respect to the Teradata database. The responsibilities of the Senior Database Administrator are as follows:
- Have a high level of technical skill in Teradata DBA activities
- Set the technical direction with respect to handling the Teradata database
- Interface with program/technical management and other organizations
- Provide input to processes
- Perform standard DBA activities
- Junior Database Administrator
The Junior Database Administrator implements the technical direction set by the Senior Database Administrator. The responsibilities of the Junior Database Administrator are as follows:
- Perform day-to-day DBA activities
- Provide coverage when the Senior Database Administrator is busy with other responsibilities
- Have a proficient level of technical skill in Teradata DBA activities
- Business Intelligence Tool Administrator
The Business Intelligence Tool Administrator is responsible for the administration of all the business intelligence products on the task order. The responsibilities of this position include:
- Aiding the technical team in implementing changes in business intelligence suite of products
- Providing leadership on product upgrades
- Business Intelligence Report Developer
The Business Intelligence Report Developer is the technical staff member who is responsible for the DECKPLATE application. The responsibilities of the Business Intelligence Report Developer are as follows:
- Perform new or maintenance work on reports or cubes as necessary
- Improvement of application performance
- Troubleshoot problems with the reports or cubes
- Developer
The Developer is the technical staff member with responsibility for enhancements and maintenance of the custom-developed applications. The responsibilities of the Developer are as follows:
- Troubleshoot problems with the custom application
- Implement new application requirements
- Perform any maintenance programming necessary
- Tester
The Tester is the technical staff member with responsibility for testing application enhancements, reports and ETL. The responsibilities of the Tester are as follows:
- Develop a test plan and test cases
- Execute the test cases
- Document results and report any problems
- System Administrator
The System Administrator is the technical staff member with responsibility for the operating system of servers for the solution. The responsibilities of the System Administrator are as follows:
- Work with other team members to determine the effect operating system updates will have on the database, applications and other tools used in the solution
- Install upgrades, updates and patches to the operating system
- Interface with IT to determine what patches must be applied for security reasons
- Perform backups according to the backup strategy and schedule
- Performance Consultant
The Performance Consultant is responsible for auditing any part of the applications or its software and making recommendations to the team on how to better improve performance of the solution.
- System Architect
The System Architect is responsible for the architecture of the solution. This will include but is not limited to hardware specification, system software specification, application software specification and tool specification.
