Iowa Department of Revenue

The State of Iowa's Department of Revenue (DOR) wanted to promote voluntary tax compliance among non- and under-reporting filers, as well as generate revenue for the state. However, data was housed in 20 disparate systems (databases, a mainframe and individual spreadsheets) that couldn't communicate with each other. Matching data from one system to another for analysis took a long time.

After implementing a Teradata Warehouse, the DOR was able to centralize data from its own tax and accounts receivable systems and combine it with tax files shared by the Internal Revenue Service, the Iowa Workforce Development Agency and other revenue and finance departments. Within four months of implementation, the DOR Teradata Warehouse realized a 1,140% ROI. The DOR collected $32 million in tax revenue in the solution's first three years and expects to generate $10 million each year in the future.
