Food and drug retailer H-E-B employs 60,000 workers and operates more than 300 stores throughout Texas and in Mexico.

H-E-B has deployed a series of new infrastructure tools from Teradata to improve its ability to react to market trends. Previously H-E-B transmitted transaction log data from POS systems to an Oracle Operational Data Store and then sent the information to Teradata in batches. By transmitting directly to Teradata, H-E-B can give business users access to information while it's still fresh. The move to a Teradata-based infrastructure is part of H-E-B's strategic goal of reducing data latency, the time it takes to update the data warehouse with fresh information from the stores, to less than 10 minutes.
