Toshiba

Toshiba Logistics is solely responsible for shipping, handling, distributing and storing everything from consumer electronics to heavy electrical machinery for global corporation Toshiba Group.

Before Toshiba Logistics implemented the Teradata Warehouse in 1988, each division operated its own main system because data requirements and business processes differed from division to division. By accumulating raw data in a data warehouse without processing it, Toshiba Logistics created an infrastructure of pure intelligence for corporate decision making. But it also had some unexpectedly "green" benefits. For example, the data warehouse reduced the need for manual ledger sheets, saving $1.5 million — and a whole lot of trees — every year.

Toshiba Logistics also uses the system to enhance route design and improve load efficiency by analyzing data on truck type and capacity, as well as shipping volume and destination, which reduces fuel consumption and gaseous emissions.
