Highmark
Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield serves nearly 23 million members through health, dental, vision, and life and casualty products.
MESA (Medical Experience Subject Area), powered by an Active Enterprise Data Warehouse from Teradata, is used by Highmark to consolidate the company's previous three separate data warehouses running on two different platforms. MESA supports claims processing, data analysis and research for the entire organization. Results are 300 to 700 percent faster with MESA: "A query that used to take hours on DB2 and sometimes had to run overnight came back in 15 seconds," says Highmark Database Administrator Anthony Howe. Highmark is already seeing impressive business results, including $9 million recovered through fraud detection in a single year and $25 million in fraudulent payments prevented through predictive analysis.
