DM Review has issued World Class Solution Awards for over ten years, celebrating achievements within the business intelligence, data warehousing, and analytics industry. This annual award represents the best practices within the industry, highlighting companies that have achieved real business value by implementing a data warehousing solution. The 2005
DM Review World Class Solution Award for Business Intelligence has been presented to Verizon Wireless with Teradata, a division of NCR.
In 2000, Verizon Wireless was formed as a result of mergers between four separate companies. There were seven data warehouses and inputs from thirteen billing systems. At that point, Verizon Wireless set a goal of implementing an Enterprise Data Warehouse. The company wanted a complete view of their 47.4 million customers, and the EDW was built to support three major objectives:
- reduce churn
- reduce costs
- increase revenues
Verizon Wireless has fully realized their EDW goals and utilized Teradata technology. Today, Verizon Wireless is experiencing the ability to offer the right products to the right customers at the right time. In addition, customer service calls have dramatically decreased, representing a significant cost savings. The total current/ongoing BI/EDW applied value is conservatively over $100 million.
