IPLocks delivers information risk management
Around the globe, the need to safeguard information has increased the attention on data privacy and security, further necessitating strict database security enforcement and information risk management policies.
Recent security breach headlines typically describe scenarios where the perpetrator was a trusted insider—an employee, customer, supplier or partner—and traditional security approaches have not protected organizations against the insider or inappropriate use of permissions. According to the U.S. Secret Service and CERT, the Computer Emergency Response Team of Carnegie Mellon University, 78% of cases involve an authorized user or users with active computer accounts at the time of the incident.
According to Scott Collins, Teradata's vice president of global alliances, "IPLocks' information risk management solution, based on user behavior monitoring, can protect Teradata enterprise data warehouses. IPLocks detects data theft and deters similar incidents while providing a mechanism to re-establish data integrity and privacy."
IPLocks' information risk management (IRM) platform supports audit and compliance by establishing and monitoring the internal controls for various data privacy regulations—California's Database Breach Notification Act, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, Sarbanes-Oxley and Japan's privacy law. IPLocks examines archived and online audit information, provides a historical analysis of transactions, and accesses and enables the forensic analysis of events.
The platform implements activity-monitoring tools at the application or database level to detect patterns of unusual activity that may indicate fraud. IPLocks' IRM platform provides Teradata users with monitoring features that detect and alert on suspicious or potentially malicious actions such as login failures, unauthorized user attempts, and structural and data changes. IPLocks' patented user behavior monitoring system learns typical user access patterns and provides alerts based on deviations.
Future enhancements will offer Teradata users additional functionality, including vulnerability assessment. This will ensure the security of the database software, configuration and operations, and report on global risk levels and recommendations.
