FRANKFURT, Germany and STAMFORD, Conn. -
Teradata, a division of
NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR), and
Protegrity Corporation, the leading provider of data security management solutions, announced a partnership that will make available the Protegrity database security solution, Secure.Data, which ensures the integrity and privacy of sensitive corporate and customer data housed in Teradata enterprise data warehouses.
"We successfully implemented the beta version of the Secure.Data solution in less than one week," said Randy Black, director of technology for Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC). ARC, a joint customer of Teradata and Protegrity, provides reporting, data analysis and transaction history to travel agents and the airline industry. "The driving force behind the implementation of Secure.Data was the mandatory requirements by Visa, MasterCard and other payment card companies for protecting credit cardholder data."
"Protegrity's solution will provide Teradata customers with the industry's most powerful protection for their data," said Randy Lea, vice president of Teradata product and services. "Our customers typically have a concurrent mix of short transaction-like queries and long analytical queries against large volumes of current and historical data with high performance needs. Protegrity's proven solution is a perfect complement, because it offers high-grade security and it leverages Teradata's unique parallel architecture for performance."
"We have been working closely with Teradata since last fall to deliver the best-in-class enterprise-level data encryption and management solution for the warehouse environment. Secure.Data gives Teradata customers a high-performance, non-invasive solution to protect sensitive data contained within their large and growing data warehouse systems," said
Gordon Rapkin, president and chief executive officer of Protegrity. "This solution helps companies address strategic initiatives related to risk mitigation, corporate governance deployment and regulatory compliance".
"It was important for us to implement a solution that would meet and exceed the security requirements mandated by the payment-card industry," said Black. "There are other additional critical benefits that paved the way for implementation: the ability to separately assign security responsibilities and access from routine data administration, the centralization of key management throughout the enterprise and the portability of the solution to other databases."
Benchmarking for the ARC implementation shows minimal storage and performance overhead for the ARC data warehouse, which contains tables with up to five billion rows in size.
Secure.Data brings together a unique combination of strong data protection, centralized security management and extensive audit and reporting, without impacting existing applications and IT infrastructure. Customers use Secure.Data to address immediate security needs and comply with numerous regulations: HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act that sets national standards to protect the privacy of personal health information; California Senate Bill 1386, which requires an agency, person or business that conducts business in California to disclose any breach of security; and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act that bolsters corporate governance, financial disclosure and the practice of public accounting in the United States. In addition, Secure.Data supports the security demands of Visa's Cardholder Information Security Program and MasterCard's Site Data Protection Program.
ARC is the premier provider of financial settlement solutions and data and analytical services for the travel industry. Airlines, travel agencies, corporate travel departments, railroads and other travel suppliers process more than $65 billion annually through ARC's world-class settlement system, making it the financial backbone of travel distribution. ARC COMPASS®, the leading, trusted source for travel transaction information, powers data and analytical tools that help ARC customers make confident business decisions.
