TAIPEI, Taiwan –
Teradata, a division of
NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR), today announced that Chi Mei Optoelectronics, a Taiwan-based leading Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display (TFT-LCD) manufacturer and the world's leading supplier of large LCD television panels, has chosen Teradata as its enterprise data warehousing platform. Teradata® technology will enable Chi Mei to integrate enterprise information effectively and enhance its decision-making processes.
In addition to selecting the Teradata Warehouse, Chi Mei is the first company in Taiwan to adopt the Teradata Manufacturing Logical Data Model (MLDM), which defines how different types of data relate to each other and serves as a blueprint for building an enterprise data warehouse. The MLDM, covering all important enterprise processes such as supply-chain, financial and inventory management, not only helps to create a single view of the business across the enterprise, but also dramatically shortens implementation time. The solution also will support Chi Mei Optoelectronics key performance indicators to improve the quality of its decisions.
Chi Mei Optoelectronics indicated that Teradata's unique massively parallel processing technology can integrate each plant's independent Manufacturing Execution Systems data, the company's enterprise resource planning system and various front-end transaction systems to significantly improve data quality. The enterprise data warehouse will provide a single view of the business, help the company to make better, faster decisions, reduce maintenance costs and improve the bottom line.
In recent years, facing the unprecedented competition from their counterparts in mainland China and the neighbor countries, the most critical issues for high-tech manufacturers in Taiwan have been to reduce costs, increase productivity and better satisfy their customers.
"With an enterprise data warehouse, manufacturers can have a 360-degree view of their business processes from procurement through production and logistics to fulfillment," said
Peter Hand, Teradata vice president of sales for Asia Pacific.
The initial phase of this project will focus on implementation, including design and planning of the data warehouse, data integration, loading, transformation and extraction. During this phase, a comprehensive data warehousing framework will be built as a solid foundation for future development. Other relevant applications will then be deployed.
