What are the Teradata certification tracks?
Teradata certification tracks are designed to contain baseline and role-based certification levels. Exams are developed for each certification level.
The exams and the certification levels in a track are based on a specific release of Teradata software.
How long might it take to achieve the certification levels in a track?
Exams are developed according to certification industry standards to measure your knowledge and skill level in the subject area. Hands-on
experience, supporting education, training methods and the certification level you choose are factors in determining how much study and preparation will
be required before you take each exam. To complete the highest level certification, Teradata Certified Master, might take up to 18 months. This is only an
average time frame and you might need more time or less time. TCPP does not mandate a specific time frame that you must complete a certification level.
However, you will want to complete your chosen certification levels before a track is retired.
On which release of Teradata software are exams in the current certification track based?
Exams and certification levels in the current certification track are based on Teradata software releases including Teradata V2R5 (Version 2, Release
5). Previous exams, based on Teradata V2R3, were retired on June 30, 2004. Exams in the future certification track will be based on new Teradata releases 12 and 13.
What certification levels are available in the Teradata V2R5 certification track?
As shown in the Quick Reference, there are six exams
based on Teradata V2R5 that can be combined for achievement of eight certification levels in the V2R5 certification track.
Teradata Certified Professional V2R5 - requires 1 exam
Teradata Certified Implementation Specialist V2R5 - requires 2 exams
Teradata Certified SQL Specialist V2R5 - requires 2 exams
Advanced Teradata Certified Professional V2R5 - requires 3 exams
Teradata Certified Administrator V2R5 - requires 3 exams
Teradata Certified Design Architect V2R5 - requires 3 exams
Teradata Certified Application Developer V2R5 - requires 3 exams
Teradata Certified Master V2R5 - requires 6 exams or 1 updated exam *
Special Certifications:
When you pass the first three Teradata exams (Basics, Physical Implementation and SQL), you are awarded the Advanced Teradata Certified Professional
V2R5 certificate and logo.
Pass all six exams and you join the elite ranks of the Teradata Certified Masters.
*Note:
Teradata Certified Masters (V2R3 track) as of June 30, 2004, may take one update exam in place of all six exams to become a Teradata Certified Master V2R5.
Is there a specific order in which I must pass the exams to achieve certification?
You may take the six exams in any order you choose. However, you must first pass the Teradata Basics exam before you will be awarded an official
certification for any of the other exams you pass. The first criterion for obtaining any of the Teradata certification levels in a track is to pass the
Teradata Basics exam in that track.
Example:
You must pass Teradata Basics V2R5 Exam NR0-011 in the Teradata V2R5 certification track. Refer to the "Certification Guide" on this web site for details.
When will the current Teradata V2R5 certification track be retired? Will I have time to complete all certification levels?
We estimate the current V2R5 certification track will be phased into retirement by end-of-year 2009. Notice of the V2R5 exam retirement date will be
widely communicated long before the exams are removed from Prometric testing sites. Most certification candidates should have ample time to complete
all certification levels in the V2R5 track.
When will the new Teradata certification track be available? Can I begin the new track and also complete the V2R5 track?
We estimate the new Teradata certification track will be launched by mid-year 2009. To provide ample time for candidates to complete the current V2R5 track,
there will be an overlap time period after the new track is released. Both tracks will be available concurrently for several months. Exact overlap
time periods will be announced later.
What happens to my certification levels in an older track when a new certification track is developed?
All Teradata certification levels achieved in any certification track will remain valued, valid and will not expire, similar to a diploma.
May I transfer my exams and certification levels in one track to a different certification track?
You will not be allowed to transfer or "mix" exams and certification levels among different tracks. You must pass exams specific to the current track to
achieve certification levels in that track.
Example:
If you passed the Teradata Basics and Teradata SQL exams in the V2R3 track, you cannot transfer those exams and certifications to the V2R5. You will need to
pass the Teradata Basics V2R5 and Teradata SQL V2R5 exams to achieve those same certification levels in the V2R5 track.
If I have achieved Teradata Certified Master status, will I have to take all exams again to achieve the Master level certification
in a different track?
In 2004, TCPP developed a Teradata Masters Update V2R5 exam for Masters only. If you achieved Teradata Certified Master (V2R3 track) before June 30,
2004, you are eligible to take one update exam in place of all six regular exams in the V2R5 track.
Will a Teradata Certified Masters Update exam from Master V2R5 to Master in the new Teradata track be available for Certified Masters?
We plan to develop a Masters Update exam for the new Teradata track. You must first achieve Teradata Certified Master V2R5 to be eligible for the Masters
Update exam in the new track.
Will a Teradata Certified Master in the original V2R3 track be eligible for the Masters Update exam in the new Teradata track?
A Teradata Certified Master in the original V2R3 track (exams retired June 2004) must first update to Certified Master V2R5 to be eligible for
the future Masters Update exam in the new Teradata track. A Master who has skipped the V2R5 Master certification will be required to pass all exams in the new Teradata track to achieve Certified Master in the new track.
Note:
The exam title at Prometric is Teradata Masters Update V2R5 Exam NR0-017.
