KXEN is on-time with real-time

KXEN CTO Erik Marcade

A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN DESCRIPTIVE and predictive analytics provider KXEN, Inc. and Teradata will support a new and powerful technology known as User Defined Functions (UDFs). UDFs enable Teradata Warehouse 7.1 customers to create individual database extensions and upload them into the database core, providing accessibility and critical functionality in real time.

KXEN excels in quickly creating models that can be used repeatedly in real-time, daily decision-making. KXEN automatically exports analytical models as Teradata UDFs. UDFs allow Teradata customers to implement their own predictive KXEN models, which become an integrated function of the database that can be executed without delay or the need to transfer data.

"KXEN believes that analytic models are most useful if they are easily integrated into the operational environment, where they enable the 'real-time enterprise' and help companies to become truly customer centric," says KXEN CTO Erik Marcade, who drove the development effort.

KXEN designs its software to embed into existing enterprise applications for leveraging customer technology investments. Business processes already in place can be made "smarter," which may lead to new sources of revenue and efficiencies.

By deploying KXEN models with Teradata UDFs, customers will benefit because:

  • Data is analyzed directly in the database without exporting.
  • Models can easily be accessed and deployed enterprise-wide, regardless of geography, support staff and other external factors.
  • New applications can use integrated, real-time scoring to optimize business performance.
  • The total cost of ownership of analytics is greatly reduced.
  • The utility and benefit of existing enterprise applications is greatly enhanced.
  • The ROI on applications and projects can now be identified, measured and improved more easily.

Tests show that a single Teradata node can analyze 200,000 customer records per second using a KXEN UDF model. The software takes full advantage of Teradata's parallelism and optimization features to reduce the predictive modeling process to hours and minutes. Customers can now sense shifts in the market, rebuild and deploy a predictive model and trigger an appropriate response within minutes. In today's highly competitive real-time world this offers a significant competitive advantage. T
