THE VALUE
OF YOUR BUSINESS IS YOUR information," says Barry
Mattingly, senior director of OEM sales for BakBone Software,
a leading provider of data recovery solutions. To protect that
value, BakBone develops and distributes backup, restore and disaster
recovery software for network storage and open-system environments,
including Teradata.
Teradata and BakBone formalized
their close working relationship in 1995 by leveraging their expertise
to create a solid backup, archive and restore (BAR) solution.
Since then, BakBone has continually refined and optimized its
NetVault software to best meet the unique requirements of the
Teradata Warehouse and its user environment.
NetVault 7.1 gives end users enhanced
platform support, improved performance and utilization, and operational
scalability that enables them to protect data used in mission-critical
business environments.
"Ours is an 'out of
sight, out of mind' product," says Mattingly, but
it provides peace of mind to customers who need to know that their
operational data will be safe in the event of unexpected system
failure.
Teradata product engineers work
closely with BakBone to continually adjust and enhance BakBone's
products and develop features specific to the Teradata environment.
"Teradata, and by extension
its customers, is treated as our most important customer,"
Mattingly notes.
Since partnering with Teradata,
BakBone has grown into a multinational company with development
centers in the United Kingdom, Japan and the United States, as
well as more than 20 sales offices worldwide. Additionally, BakBone
expanded its Teradata partnership in 2000 to become a worldwide
OEM. Teradata now accounts for a significant percentage of BakBone's
sales.
Unique to this partnership is
the close association with Teradata's BAR hardware partner
StorageTek. The BakBone/ StorageTek union encompasses regular
engineering dialogue as well as access to their mutual test and
certification centers. In addition, the two companies collaborate
on Teradata-specific marketing programs and related activities.
As a result, Teradata's
BAR solution leads the industry by providing hardware, software
and services that work seamlessly in the Teradata operating environment,
and that's good news for Teradata customers. "This
partnership goes far beyond what is seen on the surface,"
Mattingly says. T
