MIAMISBURG, Ohio Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC), the global leader in enterprise data warehousing and data analytics, has today gained RealNetworks, Inc. as a customer for its Teradata Extreme Data Appliance.

RealNetworks will use the Extreme Data Appliance to house years of historical data needed to calculate royalty and bounty payments to content partners and publishers. RealNetworks will also begin to analyze customer lifetime value based on content usage, web site visit and purchase behavior, enabling the company to provide increased service and product value to its customers. The digital entertainment services company already uses an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) from Teradata.

"The Teradata Extreme Data Appliance greatly minimizes the storage and warehousing cost hurdle associated with customer behavioral information," said Edmond Mesrobian, chief technology officer at RealNetworks. "Because all the data is first loaded into our EDW, we can ensure data integrity across our hybrid system and avoid creating a data silo."

The appliance supports up to 50 petabytes of data and lists for $16,500 per terabyte. Introduced in late 2008, the Teradata Extreme Data Appliance is purpose-built to integrate and analyze massive amounts of data and support very high volume and detailed analysis by business staff working on complex projects.

"RealNetworks is impressive in its use of integrated data to optimize each stage of the value chain," said David Grant, vice president of global industry solutions for communications, media and entertainment, Teradata Corporation. "Teradata's Integrated Web Intelligence solution makes it possible for companies to create, integrate and analyze a 'dream stream' of on-line and off-line data to optimize marketing spend, maximize life time value and provide superior service to the consumer."

The Teradata Extreme Data Appliance uses the same database operating system and data model as all other members of the Teradata Purpose-Built Platform Family. As a result, fine detail consumer behavioral data such as music track plays, video streams, and web clicks stored on the appliance can be analyzed together with subscription, purchase and user demographic information from the EDW, using the same applications and reports.
