China Post's Express Mail Services (EMS) Bureau selected an active data warehouse from Teradata as the foundation for its new Track-and-Trace System. The solution integrates data and business information from EMS' branches, transportation and logistics network, and international cooperation and production systems to provide near real-time, detailed delivery information to customers.
The Track-and-Trace System provides external services of real-time mail status tracking and business data analysis. It loads nearly 6 million data records per day, and at peak times the number of queries can reach nearly 70,000 per hour. Here are some additional benefits the new Teradata-based system provides:
- Improved consistency of query results. All queries are now based on the same tracking system and the same data sources.
- Enhanced data query timeliness. Formerly, mail status was reflected by data message uploads three times a day — now uploading occurs immediately after each transaction.
- Enriched query services. Detailed mail processing information can now be checked by both courier staff and public users in an active, real-time environment.
- Improved customer service. Enhanced mail status query service for VIP customers.
- Enhanced operating supervision and control. New supervisory capability for timely delivery failure, information quality and regulating rate.
- Strengthened operating management. New price management and auditing, customer relationship management and more.
