The Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) was founded in 1990, and its functions include providing the marketplace and facilities in China with securities trading, formulating business rules related to such trading, accepting and arranging listings, organizing and monitoring securities trading, managing and disseminating market information, and regulating members and listed companies. The SSE is directly governed by the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC).
The SSE leverages information from its Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) from Teradata to improve its capability of market surveillance, operational effectiveness, and information value-added services. The system stores all of the historic trading and corporate data of the Exchange and is considered the knowledge center for the business to manage market growth and drive key decision-making. The platform is indispensable and because of that, SSE turned to Teradata to design and implement a disaster recovery system using a dual-system architecture.
The disaster recover system allows the SSE’s 250 internal users to access over 600 applications if the warehouse were to fail. Beyond disaster recovery, performance of the EDW improved. Processing speed went up by more than 49%.
