Alan Chow

Chief Customer Officer Teradata Corporation

Alan Chow returned to Teradata Corporation in April 2009 as chief customer officer, a newly created position reporting directly to Teradata President and Chief Executive Officer Mike Koehler.

In this role, Chow is a member of the Teradata leadership team, responsible for leveraging his extensive knowledge of Teradata’s technology, products, and services to enhance customer satisfaction. As a customer advocate, he partners with Teradata Sales, Services, Engineering, and Marketing to ensure that the company’s customer strategy reflects customer needs, helping them to achieve success, good business results and high return on investment through their use of Teradata.

Chow was one of the original Teradata database engineers who pioneered the development, professional services and customer support of what is now a multi-billion-dollar data warehouse market. During his 28-year tenure with Teradata and its former parent NCR Corporation, he served in successively higher-level technology-oriented positions including Teradata's vice president of research and development.

Prior to his retirement from NCR, Chow was NCR’s senior vice president of product and solution development and chief technology officer, responsible for leading research and development and product management across all industries. Previously, he was vice president of NCR’s Payment Solutions organization that provides imaged-based services, such as check-image processing, to the finance and retail industries.

Chow began his technology career in 1975 as a programmer at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center. He joined Teradata Corporation in 1981 before it was acquired by NCR in 1992.

Chow received a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned a master’s degree in computer science from UCLA. He also holds a master of business administration degree from Pepperdine University.
