Western Digital was experiencing difficulty integrating data from suppliers and thousands of test parameters collected from each drive, head, radius and zone – along with customer problem data from the call center. After considering options from Teradata, Sybase and Netezza, they selected the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance because “No one else came close to the price/performance or to the maturity.”
Now 20 users can execute 15 to 30 active queries at any one time, and performance has increased performance by four or five times, with queries that formerly took 30 to 40 minutes down to five to 10 minutes. The data loading process went from 18 hours to between four and six hours, and the loss of a daily load cycle only takes two days to recover instead of seven to ten previously.
