Teradata Named to Dow Jones Sustainability North American Index

Fifth year company has benchmarked well against its peers
Teradata (NYSE: TDC), the analytic data platforms, marketing applications and services company, today announced it was selected for the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index of companies that lead their industries in corporate economic, environmental and social performance. This is the fifth consecutive year Teradata is listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability North American Index in the software and services industry.

"Our continued recognition by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index is the result of our ongoing commitment to being a sustainable company," said Bruce Langos, chief operating officer, Teradata. "We’re honored to be named to this prestigious ranking and will continue to make progress across all aspects of our business."

The following are selected highlights of Teradata’s sustainability program in 2013:

  • Formed a partnership with the non-profit organization DataKind to bring the power of data analytics to high-impact social charities around the world so they can better serve the needs of their clientele and was recognized by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and Networking and Information Technology Research and Development for this partnership.
  • Expanded the reach of Teradata University Network through the addition of more universities and faculty. Teradata University Network grew to more than 1750 schools in 98 countries in 2013. By providing free access to the necessary resources and software to universities worldwide, future generations of technologists and business leaders are prepared to meet the demands of a data-driven world.
  • Included more than 18,000 hours of volunteerism by employees through a combination of company-paid volunteer time and during non-work hours. More than 60 Teradata Community Champions in cities around the world led, inspired and motivated colleagues to be of service in their communities.
  • Adopted additional energy-efficiency and demand-response initiatives and relevant equipment to reduce energy usage and lower operating costs. For example, the company’s data center uses virtualization strategies and eliminates older infrastructure to reduce and manage energy consumption.
  • Diverted more than 4,900 pounds of waste office paper and 15,500 pounds of cardboard from landfills, saving the equivalent of 174 trees and 71,500 gallons of water that would have been required for processing raw pulp into paper
  • During 2013, Teradata was recognized as one of the Best Employers in Ohio, Los Angeles and San Diego.
