Top Private Retailer Belk, Inc. Selects Teradata
Data warehouse appliances, retail consulting services and data analytics will drive richer business insights
Business analysts and professionals using database technology at Belk, Inc. will soon have new capabilities to improve customer satisfaction across its 303 stores in 16 southern states. Teradata (NYSE: TDC), the world’s leading analytic data solutions company announced today that Belk, Inc., the nation's largest privately owned mainline department store company, has selected multiple Teradata Data Warehouse Appliances and the Teradata Retail Logical Data Model to build a new integrated database-driven analytics environment.
Teradata professional services consultants are also working with Belk’s business and data experts to develop a roadmap to provide additional business value. The new Teradata-based analytic environment will enable increased data visibility and accelerated speed for complex queries. The result will be faster, more detailed insight into customer interests as Belk’s business users across marketing, merchandising and operations can better ensure the merchandise that shoppers want is available when they want it.
“We were ready for a new data warehousing system to meet our requirements for a scalable, enterprise-class analytic environment capable of handling more numerous and more complex queries to explore and utilize growing volumes of valuable data,” said Mike Laurenti, executive vice president and chief information officer, Belk, Inc. “The selection of Teradata was a business decision as well as a technology decision. We are already learning from the industry expertise and data management talent of Teradata’s experienced retail data professionals.”
The new Teradata appliances will provide an optimal environment for deep data integration and powerful, enterprise-class analytics. The database infrastructure deployment will include consolidating data from existing data marts into an integrated data warehouse – plus a test and development platform.
“Belk recognized that Teradata knows retail well, and secured a data roadmap engagement with our industry consultants to help define future phases of the data warehousing rollout,” said Dean Wold, area vice president of retail solutions, Teradata. “Belk purchased the industry leading Teradata Retail Logical Data Model with the platforms, which will serve Belk as they build out a more comprehensive data management environment in the months ahead. We are very excited to be working with such a progressive and successful company as Belk.”
The power and scalability of Teradata platforms support businesses of every size whose increasingly complex business demands are driven by robust growth requirements and the emerging need for pervasive business intelligence.
